To The ICRI Georgia Chapter Membership:
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your 2009 ICRI Georgia Chapter
president. My hopes are that the chapter will meet your expectations and
that the goals we have set forth will enable us to continue as one of
ICRI’s outstanding chapters. We have had and will continue to have some
very difficult times ahead as the slowing economy takes its toll on
every aspect of the concrete construction and repair business. A few of
our fellow members have already fallen victim to this downturn and we
hope opportunities will soon develop for them.
We’ve seen some glimmers of hope regarding the economy and recently the
stock market had its best week in quite some time and it appears that
the banking bailout plan and the stimulus plan are taking effect and are
having some positive results. Only time will tell if this is a blip or
the beginning of a recovery. Let’s hope it’s the start of a recovery!
Also the AGC recently released their construction Outlook for 2009. It’s
pretty much as what was expected but there are some areas that are
projected to increase.
As for our chapter news, we have listed a few of our goals for 2009 that
have been voted on and approved:
- Increase in the number of college
scholarship awards, perhaps we will be able to offer 3 this year.
- We added additional categories for
the Georgia “Project of the Year” award.
- Continue the “Best Photo Contest”
for a concrete repair or protection related project.
- Offer to purchase and deliver food
for needy families during the holiday season.
Our monthly chapter meetings that have already been held prior to April,
have been excellent topics with outstanding attendance. We hope this
continues for the remainder of the year. Upcoming events include the
annual golf outing, scheduled for April, Lafarge Ready Mix for May,
followed by the summer break, to resume in August where we have many
great presentations planned until the annual Christmas and Awards
dinner.
Once again, thanks for your past and continued ICRI Georgia Chapter
support. Please don’t hesitate to offer any suggestions you feel that
may benefit the chapter, its mission and ultimately the results we are
trying to achieve. Feel free to contact any board member if you have any
questions. Plan on coming to the meetings to learn and also network with
your fellow ICRI members.
Lets all do our best to make 2009 a very successful and rewarding year,
both in our business and personal lives.
Sincerely,
Mike Portwood
